Ubiquiti compatible SFP matrix by model

The short answer: UniFi access and PoE models (USW-Lite, USW-24, USW-48) take 1G SFP; the USW-Pro line, the USW-Aggregation and the UniFi Dream Machine Pro/SE take 10G SFP+; the USW-Enterprise and USW-Pro-Aggregation add 25G SFP28, and the USW-Pro-Aggregation also exposes 100G QSFP28 uplinks; on the EdgeSwitch side, the ES-16-XG takes 10G SFP+. Ubiquiti does not block third-party optics, so a compatible module links without recoding. EON Technology validates Ubiquiti transceiver compatibility by model, firmware, port and optical part number. This page is a quick lookup reference by model; to move modules across other multivendor platforms, see the transceiver recoding service.

Ubiquiti equipment families with optical ports

The matrix covers the three Ubiquiti lines with SFP cages: UniFi Switch (USW), EdgeSwitch (ES) managed from UISP, and the UniFi Dream Machine (UDM) gateways.

Form factors and speed per cage

The cage sets the speed, not the module. This is the baseline equivalence used in every row of the matrix:

Form factorSpeedTypical opticsReach
SFP1GSX (MM 850 nm) · LX (SM 1310 nm) · BiDi · RJ45 copper100 m copper · 550 m MM · 3 to 20 km SM
SFP+10GSR (MM 850 nm) · LR (SM 1310 nm) · BiDi · 10GBASE-T copper300 m MM · 10 km SM · 30 m copper
SFP2825GSR · LR100 m MM · 10 km SM
QSFP28100GSR4 · LR4100 m MM · 10 km SM

A 10G SFP+ cage on a USW-Pro, USW-Aggregation or UDM-Pro also accepts a 1.25G SFP with speed downshift, and an SFP28 cage on a USW-Enterprise accepts a 10G SFP+ at 10G. A 1G SFP cage never goes up to 10G. The typical “sfp to rj45” case is also covered: a copper SFP turns a spare cage into an extra RJ45 port at 1G, or at 10G over 30 m of Cat6a. For short runs there are also DAC and AOC assemblies; each end of a DAC or AOC is coded independently for the platform it faces.

Cross-reference: from the Ubiquiti part number to the EON equivalent

Ubiquiti’s own optics carry the UF- prefix (legacy naming) and the UACC-OM- prefix (current naming). Each maps to an EON compatible equivalent with the same optics.

Fiber type, reach and wavelength

Choose by distance and installed plant: multimode OM3/OM4 at 850 nm covers the rack and the building (550 m at 1G, 300 m at 10G, 100 m at 25G); single-mode at 1310 nm covers campus and ISP handoffs up to 10 km, and 1550 nm variants reach 20 to 80 km on point-to-point WISP or inter-site links. BiDi modules use a single simplex LC strand, the usual choice on backhauls where fiber pairs are scarce. Multimode and single-mode modules are not interchangeable: match the module to the installed cable.

Firmware, UniFi Network and port diagnostics

UniFi units run UniFi OS with the UniFi Network application; EdgeSwitch units run EdgeSwitch firmware managed from UISP. We record the release on which each module was verified. Before ordering, read the cage:

  • In UniFi Network, open Devices, select the unit, go to Ports and click the SFP port: the details panel shows vendor, part number, link speed and the DDM/DOM readings (TX/RX power, temperature, voltage).
  • On EdgeSwitch, run show fiber-ports optical-transceiver all from the CLI to list the same readings for every optical port.
  • Ubiquiti’s SFP compatibility wizard and EdgeSwitch compatibility list confirm the cage type of your model; then match the optics with our matrix.

A validated module links at the expected speed, with optical power inside the budget of the chosen reach. Most compatible modules need no adaptation on Ubiquiti; when you take them to other multivendor platforms, the transceiver recoding service adapts and validates compatibility for stable operation under the agreed technical conditions, with 90-day service coverage.

Use cases and what to check before ordering

Typical projects: 10G uplinks from USW-Pro access units to a USW-Aggregation core, 25G server links on USW-Enterprise, 1G fiber ISP handoff into the SFP+ WAN cage of a UDM-Pro, BiDi links between buildings on EdgeSwitch and copper-to-fiber migrations that free RJ45 ports on PoE units. Multivendor optics on Ubiquiti hardware deliver significant savings, with engineering support before and after purchase. Before requesting, have three data points at hand: the exact model and its firmware release, the cage type (SFP, SFP+, SFP28 or QSFP28) and the required optical part number. To test before you commit, request a proof of concept. Typical dispatch in 48h*.

Compatibility validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number. EON serves Latin America and Spain from a centralized operation in Colombia.

Frequently asked questions — Ubiquiti compatibility

Does Ubiquiti support third-party SFP modules on UniFi and EdgeSwitch?

In general, yes. Ubiquiti sells its own UF- and UACC-OM- optics but does not block third-party transceivers: a compatible SFP, SFP+ or SFP28 module links on UniFi Network and on EdgeSwitch without recoding. The controller may show the vendor as unknown when the part number is not in its database, but the link operates normally. EON validates compatibility by model, firmware, port and optical part number before dispatch, so the module you receive matches your cage.

Can I use a 1G SFP in a 10G SFP+ port of a UniFi USW or a UDM-Pro?

Usually yes: the SFP+ cages on USW-Pro, USW-Aggregation and the UDM-Pro/UDM-SE accept a 1.25G SFP with speed downshift to 1G, which is common when the ISP hands off a 1G fiber. The reverse is not true: a 1G SFP cage on a USW-Lite-16-PoE or USW-24-PoE will not link a 10G SFP+ at 10G. The cage sets the speed, not the module, which is why we validate compatibility by model, firmware, port and optical part number.

How do I check the SFP module status and optical power (DDM) in UniFi Network or on EdgeSwitch?

In UniFi Network, open Devices, select the unit, go to Ports and click the SFP port: the details panel shows vendor, part number, link speed and the DDM readings (TX/RX power, temperature). On EdgeSwitch, use the CLI command show fiber-ports optical-transceiver all to list the same diagnostics for every optical port. Optical power inside the budget of the chosen reach confirms that the module links within its margins.

What is the difference between Ubiquiti UF-MM-1G, UF-SM-1G-S, UF-MM-10G and UF-SM-10G?

They are Ubiquiti's own part numbers by speed and fiber type: UF-MM-1G is a 1G multimode SFP (850 nm, up to 550 m), UF-SM-1G-S is a 1G single-mode BiDi SFP sold as a pair (up to 3 km on one strand), UF-MM-10G is a 10G multimode SFP+ (up to 300 m) and UF-SM-10G is a 10G single-mode SFP+ (up to 10 km). Each has an EON compatible equivalent with the same optics, validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number.
