100G and 400G Transceivers: QSFP28, QSFP-DD and OSFP

100G transceivers (QSFP28) and 400G optics (QSFP-DD, OSFP) for hyperscale and high density. Compatibility validated by model and firmware. Get selection help.

The 100G and 400G challenge

EON Technology supplies 100G transceivers (QSFP28) and 400G transceivers (QSFP-DD, OSFP) for spine, core and hyperscale fabrics, with compatibility validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number. You pick the optical variant by distance and fiber, and we confirm it links on your platform before you order.

AI, analytics and large-scale virtualization workloads push backbone bandwidth to 100G and 400G. At these speeds the choice of optics stops being a detail: it defines port density, power consumption, reachable distance and interoperability with the rest of the infrastructure.

Form factors and variants

  • 100G, QSFP28: 4x25G lanes. SR4 (MPO multimode, up to 100 m on OM4), LR4/CWDM4 (duplex LC single-mode, 10 km / 2 km), ER4 (40 km).
  • 400G, QSFP-DD / OSFP: 8x50G PAM4. DR4/FR4/LR4 by reach (500 m / 2 km / 10 km); high density in spine and core, with OSFP offering more thermal headroom.
  • Long-haul transport: DWDM multiplexing to squeeze each fiber up to the Tbps range.

Breakout (100G into 4x25G, 400G into 4x100G) raises port density and connects layers running at different speeds without wasting slots. Parallel variants (SR4, DR4) break out over MPO trunks; duplex variants (LR4, FR4) do not, so the choice of module also fixes the cabling.

Before ordering, have at hand the platform model and firmware, the port type (QSFP28, QSFP-DD or OSFP) and its breakout support, the fiber (OM4 multimode or OS2 single-mode, MPO or duplex LC) and the span length. With that we confirm the optical part number and whether the platform needs recoding. On 400G platforms also check the port’s power class: some cages cap the module wattage they accept, which rules out certain long-reach variants on that port.

Why EON Technology

We deliver multivendor high-speed optics with compatibility validated by model, firmware, port and optical part number on the main platforms. Some platforms report third-party optics as unsupported; when yours does, transceiver recoding adapts and validates the module, with 90-day service coverage. You get significant savings against the OEM part and engineering support before and after purchase, backed by a 1- to 5-year product warranty. EON serves Latin America and Spain from a centralized operation in Colombia. Validate it in a proof of concept, review the compatibility matrix or talk to an engineer.

Frequently asked questions

Which form factor is used for 100G and 400G?

100G mainly uses QSFP28 (4x25G). 400G uses QSFP-DD (8x50G) or OSFP, both built for high-density cages. The optical variant (SR/DR/FR/LR) depends on distance and fiber type.

What is breakout and why does it matter at high speed?

It splits a high-speed port into several lower-speed ones: 100G into 4x25G or 400G into 4x100G. It raises port density, connects equipment running at different speeds and makes better use of every slot on the platform.

How do you reach long distances at 100G/400G?

With single-mode LR4/ER4 variants and, for transport spans, DWDM multiplexing. EON validates the right optical part number for the distance, fiber and platform.
